Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park

Located between Ocala and Gainesville, off US441, this is a hikers, wildlife watchers, and canoeist escape.
To date, we have made this trip 3 times. Each time presents a new experience. Bathhouses are clean and well kept. Park itself is clean and well kept. The trails are marked nicely. Before taking off, get a trail map and make sure you have water, snacks, a camera and you are up to the challenge. Terrain is not difficult, however it is humid and hot. Easy to overexert yourself.
The observation tower is amazing. 1 trip we were blessed with a herd of bison, with young. The next, deer with fawns.
Sites are level. Bring a water filter. Nicely spaced with a foliage buffer. This is Florida, so you will need bug spray.
