Gear-Trekking Poles

Are they worth the hype...Answer is simple, YES! As I have stated in the past, I love the outdoors. There is a peace that is found as you walk through the woods where the only sound you hear is your footsteps and the birds or rippling water or surf crashing...Unfortunately, due to a career choice that requires you to beat up your body, in our middle ages, we deal with aches, pains, cramps, and other issues that sometimes make an act as simple as walking difficult. I have always been active, however I do not go to the gym 3 times a week, nor do I squat 500 lbs or curl 90 lb dumbbells. I don't run. I don't ride a bike on a regular basis and I eat fast food at least once a week, sometimes more. Painting a picture?
That being said, on average I enjoy a hike of 2 to 5 miles. Any more then that, I'll drive or look at it on youtube.
My wife, she's good for a mile or two then her hips start to give her issues.
Because I enjoy hiking and enjoy her company, I did some research on trekking poles. Read all kinds of reviews and recommendations. Doing so, I realized they can be pricey. Because I don't have money to throw away, I figured I would start by trying a mid level set and go from there.
Searching Amazon, I decided on the VIVE brand, fully adjustable.
First trip in the woods, she loved them. We hiked all day. The next day, she wasn't limping and wanted to go again.
Second trip out, she gave one to me to try, she's knee high to a grasshopper, me 6'. Made some adjustments, I loved them. I couldn't believe what a difference it made. Increases balance, changes your stance, makes you all around more stable. Once we were home from that trip, I ordered myself a cheaper set. Results, they work just as well.
Now, they are not a miracle cure. However if you suffer from mild knee, hip or ankle issues, they are a game changer. Ours now stay under the rear seat of the truck, so they are available any time we may want to use them. As you can see, the bags have a shoulder/back strap. Strap works great if the poles are inside, otherwise I either stick it in my pocket or leave in the truck. Happy hiking.
